U.S. hospitals are woefully behind corporate America in technology deployments, and when they do purchase computer systems, Unix and Windows are the typical platforms. In recent years, however, healthcare IT software is increasingly supporting Linux, led most notably by McKesson, which switched to Red Hat Linux for its server software in 2007.

hello big bear,

i'm agree with you. Ubuntu isn't GNU/Linux ! Ubuntu is a GNU / Linux among many others! I think fans of ubuntu have an attitude sometimes a bit annoying.
Like you, I use multiple distributions: CentOS, Debian, Mandriva, ubuntu and I am discovering openSUSE which leaves me at the moment a very good impression.

yours.

Thank you, and that's why I specifically stated it was 'my' problem. I did not say it was the same for everyone. The opinions expressed here are mine and I try to make that clear instead over trying to suggest that everyone must hold these opinions.

Ultimately, you are correct. There are things that ubuntu needs to improve on in terms of config center beyond that, it is very close to making 'my' list of top tier. Mostly I do see the 'special' users, not 'all' ubuntu users as the discipleship would assume, as being more of a problem with the way ubuntu is marketed.

So it sounds more like your problem is with people who evangelise Ubuntu rather than with the distro itself?

I am surprised that you wouldn't group Ubuntu with Mandriva, OpenSuse and RedHat/Fedora as I can't see what would separate them as each has its own advantages and disadvantages and I wouldn't consider any of these 4 as better or worse than the others.

I can see where you are coming from though, I have similar conversations with Apple users where I work who can't understand that I don't find Apple products that innovative or enticing!

what would you consider a top tier linux distro? It's hard to see your comparison without anything to compare it to.

BEL Project is no longer creating ISO's based on any distro. The last effort was the opensuse based one. WE will provide tech and user help with any of the distros we have listed as one of our 'supported' distros in the forums and on the Wiki..

Does that mean BEL will now be based on Mandriva? Or that BEL will be compatible with Mandriva's repository? Just curious to know that.
