Server

The Server team is in charge of providing and implementing PCLOS in a server/networking presentation. There are two server versions being developed and maintained. Server-Basic and Server-Pro.

Server-Basic is a multi server, sometimes referred to as a "super-server" implementation. It is the PCLOS 2007 distro that has been "stripped of all the original apps and items not necessary for a server. It was built back up using a "stripped" KDE desktop manager and installing only servers and networking apps and tools. The goal of Server-Basic is to provide a server/network essentials environment that is aimed at "out of the box" functionality. It is not made with "advanced" Enterprise level servers and utilities. Instead, it gives the small business user with not much experience or practice a way to get a basic network and "typical" servers set up with little difficulty and an opportunity to learn as they go and still get work done.

Server-Pro will be made with "enterprise" level in mind. However, it also is targeted not to experienced and well trained techs and admins ( although they can use it too, we don't mind ) but to the small business person who wants a more polished, professional working network and servers in their business. The key word for Server-Pro is "accessible". While we still try to keep the "out of the box" experience alive as much as possible, the reality of networking and servers is that it is always going to require the person(s) who admin to learn and do their homework on using things like the command line and config files to a certain degree. Whee we bring the BEL experience to Pro is we want to provide a fully usable, server with all the tools and resources an admin needs in No need to hunt around to find something to get a server or app running. It's all easily accessible. At the same time, we want to provide solid, established servers and tools that get the job done right. If we can get it "pre-configured" and "out of the box" ready at the same time, we're ahead of the game.

Building these servers is a lot of fun but a lot of work as well and being on the Server Team is an education all in itself.

If you are interested in working on the Server Team, the Team Lead is currently Big Bear and you can email or pm him in the forum, from the website or here. Big Bear

Docs

The Docs team is going to be one of the most active and visible.

The Docs team is not only responsible for maintaining the Wiki content and the website content, Docs also is the contact point for User Forum members to send their contribution to the Wiki for editing and inclusion.

All the Step-by-Step and How To docs that end up on the disks as they are released are written and/or edited and formatted by the Docs team.

This means that not only must members of the Docs team want to learn editing, formatting and documenting, they must also be researchers and detailed note takers. Members of the Docs team will be going over each release in BEL to provide in depth articles and How-To's/Step-by-Steps, etc to facilitate the Linux experience for users of every experience level.

If you are interested in being on the Docs team, please contact the Docs Team Lead: BigBear

Pkg/Kernel

The Pkg/kernel team will be getting into the guts of it all by helping to provide a stable 64 bit kernel for use with BEL Server-Pro.

At the same time, team members will also be working on packaging/repackaging apps, etc that may not be in the regular PCLOS repos but may be of value to Business Edition users.

This of course means that Pkg/kernel team members will also be maintaining the BEL Repos that will retain the custom packages for business users.

the pkg/kernel team lead is [Linuxera]
