When a Wiki is Worthwhile

If you have ever logged on to Wikipedia, the online encyclopedia, you are previewing software that is available to use in your own network on your own servers for your own purposes.

How is it that running a Wiki can be useful to your organization though?

I have one school I admin at where a Wiki was just set up for staff training and education purposes. Everything a teacher or office staff person needs to know about the specific tasks and procedures and policies they are expected to follow are being put on the Wiki.

I use a Wiki for my beekeeping apiary website to provide essentially what is to be a training manual for beekeepers as well as post pdf files of all the inspections and observations of the bee hives we do.

A non profit nature organization is in the process of setting up a Wiki to provide information about the various plants and animals visitors will see when walking the trails. They are also setting up a training Wiki for volunteers to learn procedures and tasks that are part of the training they receive.

How can you use a WIki in your organization? How are you using a Wiki in your organization?
